Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 171

Because they are preoccupied with imitation and are attached to their misguidance, they do not pay attention to what is recited to them nor do they reflect on what is been explained to them. Therefore, they are like farm animals which hear only the rings of the bell and the cry of the voice. Al-Alusi: 2/42.
Question: Why does Allah describe the disbelievers with such descriptions?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 172

The command to give thanks comes immediately after mentioning the blessings because gratitude preserves existing blessings and brings about missing ones, whereas ingratitude repels blessings that are missing and causes existing ones to be lost. Al-Saadi: 81.
Question: What is the link between gratitude and blessings?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 172

The true meaning of gratitude is giving of good things. Offering gratitude for each blessing is to show it in its proper form, whether it is wealth, status, knowledge, food or drinks or other things, spend the excess of it, and be content with its minimum. Those who wish to receive Allah's reward trade with Him by giving the excess of the blessings to the needy since they are entrusted with these blessings, as the treasuries of the Generous King (Allah) come to pass at the hands of His servants. Al-Biqai: 1/316.
Question: What is the true meaning of gratitude?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 173

Since Islam is a religion of ease not hardship, blame or burden, these forbidden food items can be consumed by one who is compelled by necessity. Al-Biqai: 1/318.
Question: Islamic Sharia is valid for all times and places because it takes into account all conditions. Explain in light of this verse.

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 174

(Nor will He purify them), as He will purify whomever He Wills of His servants. They will not be purified since they have concealed knowledge that purifies others. This highlights the enormity of this sin. (And they will have) along with this punishment (A painful punishment) for causing people a great difficulty by concealing knowledge that would guide them on to the straight path. Al-Biqai: 1/320.
Question: Why is purification denied to those who conceal what Allah has revealed?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 174

Allah calls it (small) because it is short-lived, and incurs terrible consequence. Moreover, it is said that the amounts of bribes they used to take were small. Even though this verse describes Jewish scholars, nevertheless, it is applicable to some Muslims who conceal the truth for the sake of worldly gains. The use of the word (bellies) alludes to their greed and the fact that they have sold the Hereafter for a portion of food that had no value. Al-Qurtubi: 3/48-49
Question: Who is generally meant by this verse? What is the significance of the phrase "in their bellies"?

Al-Baqarah Verses 0 - 175

Meaning: How persistent they are in continuing to commit sins that will lead them to Hellfire. Ibn Kathir: 1/196.
Question: They are described as patient even though they have not entered the Fire yet. How?
