(If He wills, He can do away with you and produce a new creation), He is capable of obliterating as He is of creating things, so do not disobey Him, for if you do (He can do away with you and produce a new creation) who are better and more obedient than you are. Al-Qurtubi: 12/125.
Question: What is the punishment that would strike us if we disobey Allah and follow our whims?
Iblis, may Allah curse him, will stand and address his followers in order to add sorrow to their sorrow, a deprivation to their deprivation, and regret to their regret. Ibn Kathir: 2/510
Question: What is the aim of Iblis's address to the people of Hellfire?
Allah states what satan will say on the Day of Judgment to alert the listeners, urge them to think about their end, to be ready for the inevitable, and visualize the setting at which satan will say that, so they become fearful and do what will benefit them then. Al-Alusi: 14/266.
Question: What is the wisdom behind informing us of what satan will say to his followers on the Day of Judgment?
They are the ones who gave him this power over themselves, by taking him as an ally and joining his party. Hence, he has no power over those who believe and put their trust in their Lord. Al-Saadi: 425.
Question: What is the trait of one over whom Iblis has authority?
It should be noted that in this verse, Allah states that satan has no power, and elsewhere He says: (His authority is only over those who take him as an ally and those who through him associate others with Allah) [16:100]. The power which Allah tells us that satan does not possess is the power of proof and evidence. He has no proof at all for that to which he calls people. All that he has is specious arguments that he presents to make falsehood fair-seeming, so that people will have justification in their minds to commit sin. As for the power which Allah tells us that satan has, it is the power by means of tempting his allies to commit sin; he strongly incites them to commit sin. Al-Saadi: 425.
Question: Iblis's authority is negated in one verse and confirmed in another. How can you reconcile the two verses?
They greet each other by saying: "Peace" (salam), and the angels greet them by the same. Al-Qurtubi: 2/555.
Question: Saying "Peace" is the best greeting. What is the proof of that?
The good word: Tawhīd (there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah). It is like a tree, and the good deeds are its fruits at all times. Ibn Taimyah: 4/110.
Question: The good word is Tawhīd and the good deeds are its fruits. Explain.
