The insightful mind of a judge is not deceived by such tricks upon which no judgment will be based. As judgment can be based only on evidence. Ibn Ashur: 12/236.
Question: A judge should not be deceived by tears alone, rather he must ask for a proof. Explain.
Your souls made fair-seeming to you an abhorrent deed in order to separate me and him. For he realized, from the circumstantial evidence and from the dream that Joseph had told him about, that which proved his suspicion. Al-Saadi: 395.
Question: What was the evidence that showed Joseph's brothers as liars?
Sufyan Al-Thawri said: "Three qualities are akin to patience: Do not talk about your pain, nor your hardships, and do not claim purity for yourself." Ibn Kathir: 2/453.
Question: Identify some types of beautiful patience.
(Beautiful patience) is patience without complaint. Jacob (ﷺ) said, (I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah) with saying, (But I will bear it with beautiful patience. It is Allah's help that I seek against what you claim). Thus, complaining to Allah does not contradict beautiful patience. Ibn Taimyah: 4/22.
Question: What is the beautiful patience? Does complaining to Allah contradict that?
(But Allah is All-Knowing of what they did), Allah knew what Joseph's brothers and those who bought him did. He was able to stop them and prevent them from doing that, but out of His perfect wisdom He decreed otherwise. He let them do what they did, so that His decision prevails and His appointed destiny rules. This reminds Allah's Messenger Muhammad (ﷺ) that Allah has perfect knowledge of the persecution that his people committed against him, and that He is able to stop them. However, He decided to give them respite, then give Muhammad (ﷺ) the victory and make him prevail over them, just as He gave Joseph victory and made him prevail over his brothers. Ibn Kathir: 2/454.
Question: This verse ends with (But Allah is All-Knowing of what they did). Why?
As for the light, knowledge, and wisdom, they are all indicated in this verse of Surat Yusuf, (And when he reached his prime, We gave him wisdom, and knowledge. This is how We reward those who do good). Ibn Taimyah: 4/22.
Question: Every doer of good has a share in the light, knowledge and wisdom. Explain.
Mentioning those who do good is an indication that he was rewarded with this blessing because he was a doer of good. Ibn Ashur: 12/248.
Question: State one of the benefits of being a good doer.
