Hud Verses 0 - 89

We learn many lessons from Shu'ayb's story; the stories of warnings of punishment and what happened to the earlier generations should be remembered, and these stories, which tell of the punishments that befell the evildoers, should be mentioned in the context of exhortation and admonition. We should also mention the honors that Allah bestowed upon those who feared Him when encouraging and urging people to fear Allah. Al-Saadi: 389.
Question: This verse presents an approach used by Shu'ayb (u) when calling his people to Allah, what is it?

Hud Verses 0 - 90

(The Affectionate) has two meanings, one of them is the One Who loves the believers. It is also said that He is the One Who is loved by the believers. Al-Baghawi: 2/421.
Question: What is the meaning of (The Affectionate)? What lesson is learned from this verse?

Hud Verses 91 - 92

Their disparagement of Allah's Messenger is like that of Allah, the Almighty. That is why he said, (does my clan have a higher status to you than Allah. And you have abandoned Him behind your backs). Ibn Juzay: 1/404.
Question: The belittlement of a scholar or a preacher for his religion is like that of Allah, the Almighty. Explain.

Hud Verses 0 - 91

That was because of their resentment and aversion toward what he said. Al-Saadi: 388.
Question: What is the reason preventing them from understanding Shu'ayb (u)?

Hud Verses 0 - 91

Allah protects the believers by many means, some of which they may be aware of and others they may know nothing of. He may protect them by means of their tribe or their fellow countrymen who are disbelievers, as Allah protected Shu'ayb from the stoning of his people by means of his family. There is nothing wrong with benefiting from these ties, by means of which Islam and Muslims may be protected; indeed, that may be a must, because putting things right is required to the extent of one’s ability and what is possible. Al-Saadi: 389.
Question: Is it permitted for a Muslim to pursue worldly means to protect his religion?

Hud Verses 0 - 94

Here, Allah mentions that a huge blast (Sayhah) came to them. In Surat Al-A'raf, He says a severe quake (Rajfah) came to them. In Surat Ash-Shu'ara', He said it was a torment of a cloudy day. They were one nation upon which all of these punishments were gathered on the day of their destruction. In each context, Allah mentioned what was suitable. Ibn Kathir: 2/439.
Question: Allah mentions three types of punishments for people of Shu'ayb. How do you reconcile these verses?

Hud Verses 96 - 97

Meaning: The nobles of his people, because they were the ones who were followed; other people would follow their lead. Al-Saadi: 389.
Question: The nobles of the Pharaoh are singled out for mention, even though Moses (u) was sent to all the people of the Pharaoh. Why?
