Meaning: This does not negate the existence of the hearing or the sight, rather it negates their usefulness for following the religion of Allah. Ibn Juzay: 1/330.
Question: When are your hearing and sight considered useful?
Since they do not find the right way to a reward, they become like livestock, which are only concerned about eating and drinking, in fact, they are even more astray because livestock recognize what is good and what is harmful and follow their owner, but the disbelievers are the opposite of that. Al-Qurtubi: 9/390.
Question: Why are some of children of Adam considered more astray than livestock?
Allah calls His names "the best", because they are beautiful to the ears and hearts. They point to the Oneness of Allah, His generosity, munificence, mercy and blessings. Al-Qurtubi: 9/393.
Question: Allah calls His names "the best", why?
Meaning: Ask Allah by His names, and for each request, invoke the corresponding name of Allah, such as "O Most Merciful, have mercy on me" and "O the All-Wise, judge for me". Al-Qurtubi: 9/393.
Question: How does a Muslim invoke Allah's names?
(And leave those who practice deviation concerning His names) leave those who practice deviation concerning His names by abstaining from debating them, as it is clear that they do not seek to know the truth; or avoid listening to what they say, lest they deceive the rest of the believers with their doubts. Ibn Ashur: 9/189.
Question: What is meant by (leave those who practice deviation concerning His names)?
This verse indicates that Allah does not allow, in this life, the absence of those who call to the truth at all times. Al-Qurtubi: 9/397.
Question: Has there ever been a time when no one calls to the truth in this life?
Al-Kalbi said: "Allah makes their actions appealing to them, then He destroys them." Ad-Dahhak said: "Every time they commit a sin, We provide them with a new blessing." Sufyan Al-Thawri said: "We bestow blessings upon them, and make them forget to be grateful for them." Al-Baghawi: 2/176.
Question: How are people gradually led to destruction without them realizing it?
