Allah's mercy covered everything. Alhasan and Qatadah said: In this life, Allah's mercy encompassed the righteous and the wicked , but in the Hereafter, it is only for the righteous. Al-Baghawi: 2/157.
Question: Who receives Allah's mercy in this life? Who receives it in the Hereafter?
Meaning: Those who believe in all the Books and Prophets (); only the Muslim nation attained that. Ibn Juzay: 1/319.
Question: This verse gives a glad tiding to the Muslim nation only. Why?
Part of perfect faith and belief in the revelations of Allah is to understand their meanings and act accordingly. This includes following the Prophet (ﷺ) both outwardly and inwardly, in both fundamental and minor issues of religion. Al-Saadi: 305.
Question: What are the signs of believing in the verses of Allah?
The illiteracy of the Prophet (ﷺ) was a functional one, where he could not write nor read out of a document, but he was the leader of all people in knowledge and recital out of memory. Ibn Taimyah: 3/210.
Question: What kind of illiteracy did the Prophet (ﷺ) have?
Burden is a heavy load, where a covenant was taken upon the Children of Israel that they would perform difficult actions. With the sending of Prophet Muhammad (r), Allah has relieved them from that covenant and difficult actions, where now it is sufficient to wash the urine, permissible to take the spoils of war, and permissible to sit and eat with a menstruous woman. Al-Qurtubi: 9/356.
Question: Describe the greatness of Allah's mercy upon Muslim nation where He relieved them from all burdens and heavy actions?
(they who have believed in him), they believed in Muhammad (ﷺ). (Honored him) revered him. (supported him) helped him against enemies. (And followed the light which was sent down with him) followed the Quran, and so they are (those who will be the successful). Al-Baghawi: 2/159.
Question: What are the traits of those who are successful that are mentioned in the book of Allah?
It seems that this verse is aimed at avoiding a wrong impression that may arise from the previous verses, in which Allah had mentioned a number of the faults of the Israelites that were contrary to perfection and guidance. Some may think that this referred to all of them, therefore Allah states that among them was a group of upright people who were guided and who guided others. Al-Saadi: 306.
Question: This verse comes after other verses that censured the people of Moses (u). Why?
