The wisdom behind what Allah prohibits is to protect His servants from harm that is present in that which is prohibited, and He may or may not unveil that to His servants. Al-Saadi: 219.
Question: Is it necessary to know the wisdom behind any act of worship?
Allah, the All-Knowing, says to the believers that there is no excuse for any of you to show harmony with the disbelievers, or to hide your faith from them because now their power is weakened, their resolve is drained, and their dedication is depleted so they despaired of defeating you or alluring you to their religion; for they saw your religion is spreading throughout the land. Al-Biqai: 2/392.
Question: Why did the disbelievers despair of defeating Islam?
When this verse was revealed, Omar Ibn Al-Khattab () wept, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "What is the matter, Omar?" He replied: "I wept because our religion was increasing but now that it has been completed, it will only decrease." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "You are right." Al-Baghawi: 1/636.
Question: What made Omar () weep when he reflected on this verse?
The Quran and Sunnah are completely sufficient with regard to the rulings of Sharia, both the fundamental and incidental. Anyone who claims that for people to learn their beliefs and rulings, must refer to other branches of knowledge apart from knowledge of the Quran and Sunnah, such as "Islamic philosophy", is ignorant and his call is false, because it is an implicit claim that Islam cannot be complete without that which he is promoting. This is the worst form of wrongdoing, and is an accusation of ignorance against Allah and His Messenger. Al-Saadi: 220.
Question: Emphasizing the role of philosophy while belittling the Quran and Sunnah is a sign of religious innovation. Explain in light of this verse.
(Training them as Allah has taught you), the author of Tafseer Al-Kashaf (Al-Zamakhshari) said: The repetition of the derivatives of the Arabic word for (learn) indicates the importance of the source of learning, and the fact that learning should always be from the best and most competent source of knowledge, even if one has to travel far for it. Learning from an incompetent source is a waste of time and a regretful endeavor. Ibn Ashur: 6/115.
Question: What is the consequence of learning from an incompetent source?
This verse indicates the advantage of a learned person over an ignorant one, since a trained dog has an advantage over an untrained one. Therefore, a scholar has an advantage over others, especially if he practices what he knows. Al-Qurtubi: 7/313.
Question: In light of this verse, explain the advantage of learning and knowledge.
Attributing the dowry to the women proves that the woman owns all of her dowry; it is hers and no one is entitled to any of it, unless she willingly gives it to her husband, guardian or anyone else. Al-Saadi: 222.
Question: The verse proves that the woman owns her dowry. Explain.
