When the truth comes upon the hearts, they become one of these four types: First: A tested heart that reacts with disbelief and denial. Second: A heart whose faith increases in certainty. Third: A heart whose certainty is assured, and so proof is established against it, Fourth: A heart that becomes bewildered and blind, and does not know what it is. Ibn Al-Qayim: 3/216.
Question: When the truth comes upon the hearts, they turn into different types. What are they?
This affirms that the believer's duty is to hasten to believe and submit to any command or news from Allah, even if he does not know the wisdom or the aim for it, as Allah knows best. Al-Shanqiti: 8/365.
Question: Does the believer have to know the wisdom behind every matter in Islam to believe in it?
Meaning: To dispel doubts from them. These are important objectives to which people of mature understanding pay attention and care about, striving to increase their certainty and faith at all times, with regard to issues of religion, and to ward off doubt and illusion that could undermine the truth in a person's mind. Al-Saadi: 897.
Question: This verse indicates that it is an obligation to have certainty in all religious matters. Explain.
(Except the People of the Right), those who were described before, for they had sided with Allah, adhered to His commands, and refrained from His prohibitions; they will not be held in pledge for their deeds. Rather, Allah will have mercy toward them; He will accept their good deeds and forgive their sins. Al-Biqai: 21/71.
Question: Who are the people of the right?
This indicates that those who are firm in their duty toward prayer will be protected from such fate. Moreover, it shows that praying is the greatest of all good deeds and that prayer will be the first thing for which a person is called to account, on the Day of Resurrection. Al-Biqai: 21/75.
Question: What will be reason for those to enter the Fire? What is the lesson learned from that?
This verse indicates that a Muslim who neglects establishing prayer and giving zakah will deserve a share of the Fire commensurate with the amount of his negligence, and based on Allah's Judgement of his good deeds and evil ones, and his outward actions and his inward intents. Ibn Ashur: 29/328.
Question: This verse indicates the risk for a Muslim to neglect prayer and zakah. Explain.
Meaning: We engaged in falsehood with those who engaged in it. Falsehood refers to inappropriate words and actions, such as revealing intimate talks between a husband and his wife, or immoral talks by evildoers for fun and joy. Al-Alusi: 15/147.
Question: A loose tongue can be a disaster. Explain in light of this verse.
