Meaning: He would have made their lives full of luxurious things, and given them everything they desire. But what prevented Him from doing that was His mercy towards His servants, lest they hasten to disbelieve and commit many sins because of their love of worldly gain. This indicates that He may withhold some worldly gains from His servants, at society's level, or individuals, in their best interests. Al-Saadi: 765.
Question: This verse contains proof that Allah, out of His mercy, may withhold some of life's ornaments from His servants. Explain.
A person who lives in prosperity is likely to be distracted from remembering Allah, so, the angels would repel from him, but the devils would cling to him, which would lead him to every evil deed. But whoever fears Allah and adheres to His remembrance, Allah will assign to him a helping angel. Al-Biqai: 7/27-28.
Question: Mention some of the negative consequences of being heedless of Allah’s remembrance.
If it is asked: Does this person have any excuse because he thinks that he is rightly guided while he is not? The response is: No, he and his ilk have no excuse, because the cause of their ignorance is turning away from the reminder of Allah, despite of their ability to choose guidance. They showed no interest in guidance despite being able to do so, but they chose falsehood. So, the fault is theirs and the error is theirs. Al-Saadi: 766.
Question: Do the misguided people have any excuse because they thought that they were rightly guided while they were not?
This is said to the disbelievers in the Hereafter, which means that they will not be consoled by sharing the punishment, similar to the relief that an afflicted person, in worldly life, would feel when seeing others with the same affliction. Ibn Juzay: 2/314.
Question: Explain the mental punishment to which a heedless person will be subjected, in the Hereafter.
Meaning: None of that is up to you, rather, it is all in the Hand of Allah, the Most Powerful over all things. As to you [O Prophet], your duty is only to convey the message. Al-Biqai: 7/30.
Question: What is the main task of those who preach others to Allah?
The pronoun in (it is) refers to the Quran or Islam. (Remembrance) means honor. (Your people), Quraish and the rest of the Arab people, as they, through Islam, have attained honor in worldly life and the Hereafter. It should suffice you that they had conquered the east and west of the land. Ibn Juzay: 2/314.
Question: What is the honor attained by the Arabs when they adhered to Islam?
Those who live in luxury often disdain whoever comes to them, and they persist on doing that until the Almighty subjugates them by the Message carried out by His Messengers, either by destroying them or something else despite their power. Allah relates the story of Moses (u) as a testimony to this fact, such as the answer of Pharaoh to Moses (u), his subsequent demise despite his power, and the deliverance of the Children of Israel despite their weakness. Al-Biqai: 7/33.
Question: What is the attitude of the affluent ones toward those who advise them? What is Allah’s way in deciding the end of each group?
