Meaning: Humiliation will overcome them, because of their previous disobedience toward Allah. Ibn Kathir: 4/122.
Question: What is the reason for their humiliation on the Day of Resurrection?
They will lose themselves when they enter the Fire in which they will be tormented; and they will lose their families because if they are in the Fire, they will be of no benefit to them, and if they are in Paradise, a barrier will be set between them. Al-Shawkani: 4/543.
Question: How will they lose themselves and families on the Day of Resurrection?
In this and similar verses, there is a condemnation of those who hope to live long and a command to make the most of any opportunity that comes along to do a good deed, because procrastinating leads to a great deal of trouble. Al-Saadi: 761.
Question: What is false hope? Is procrastinating good deeds justified?
Meaning: A keeper of their deeds so you call them to account. It is said that it means as a manager over them and bound to them until they believe, which means you cannot force them to believe. Al-Qurtubi: 18/500.
Question: This verse consoles preachers to Allah when they get no response from others. Explain.
This alludes to the fact that the aim of giving mercy is not to rejoice in pride and insolence, rather, it is to offer thanks to the Bestower. Moreover, the aim of affliction is not for ungratefulness and discontent, rather, it is for returning to the One Who causes it. Al-Alusi: 25/75.
Question: What should the Muslim do during times of prosperity and hardship?
Meaning: He forgets the previous times of ease and blessings and acknowledges nothing but the present moment. Ibn Kathir: 4/122-123.
Question: What is the difference between how a Muslim and a disbeliever view previous blessings?
It is said that females are mentioned first to emphasize caring for them due to their weakness, especially when they have recently emerged from pre-Islamic era when female newborns were buried alive. In a Prophetic Hadith: "Whoever is tested by having daughters and he treats them generously (with benevolence), then they will be a shield for him from the Fire." Al-Alusi: 25/75-76.
Question: Islam honors and protects women. Explain in light of this verse.
