As-Saffat Verses 130 - 133

Elias' story indicates that the Messenger's duty is to convey the message, and it is not essential for him to witness the destruction of those who reject him; this responds to the polytheists who said: (When will this warning come to pass, if you are truthful) [10:48]. Allah says, (Say, “My Lord, if You show me what they are warned of ` My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people ` We are surely able to show you what We have warned them) [23:93-95]. Ibn Ashur: 23/170.
Question: The preacher should convey his message and should not wait for the punishment of those who did not accept it. Given this verse, explain this concept.

As-Saffat Verses 137 - 138

Meaning: You pass by their ruins during the daytime and night when you travel back and forth (Then will you not use reason) so you be admonished by their fate. Al-Baghawi: 3/678.
Question: The ruins of former people is for admonishment and warning, not for entertainment and pastime. Explain in light of this verse.

As-Saffat Verses 139 - 144

Know that the aim of mentioning Jonah here was to console the Prophet (ﷺ) for carrying the load of the Message by informing him that it was a heavy load for the Messengers before him too. Hence, the Prophet's (ﷺ) high rank became apparent for his patience and uncomplaining. Moreover, it was to inform all the people that he was commanded by Allah to persist in calling them to the true religion because the polytheists used to blame him for his persistence in calling them during different times and situations. Ibn Ashur: 23/178.
Question: What is the aim of mentioning the story of Jonah (u)?

As-Saffat Verses 139 - 140

Allah does not mention the cause of his anger or the sin that he committed, because there is no benefit for us in mentioning that. Rather, what benefits us is to tell us that he committed a sin and Allah punished him for it, despite the fact that he was one of the noble Messengers, then He saved him after that, and absolved him of blame, and made available to him the means of well-being. Al-Saadi: 707.
Question: What do you learn from knowing that one of the Prophets was punished for his sin?

As-Saffat Verses 0 - 140

Meaning: He wanted to escape so he took to the sea. In the Arabic text, the word "abaqa" means the flight and escape of a slave from his master without permission. It is used here for Jonah since he is a slave of Allah, and so that is the meaning of "Ibaq" in Arabic. Ibn Atiyah: 4/485.
Question: "Ibaq" is used to describe the flight of a slave from his master, so why is it used here to describe Jonah who was a free man?

As-Saffat Verses 0 - 140

Meaning: He escaped to the ship that was full of people, and the reason for his escape was his anger at his people since they did not believe him. Ibn Juzay: 2/241.
Question: Why did Allah's Prophet Jonah (u) escape to the fully loaded ship?

As-Saffat Verses 0 - 143

Allah mentions that Jonah was one of those who exalt Allah, and that his exaltation of Allah was the cause for his deliverance, hence, it is said that a righteous deed lifts its doer when he stumbles. Alhasan said: Jonah did not perform prayer inside the whale's belly, but he had done good deeds during times of prosperity, hence, Allah remembered him during the time of adversity. Al-Qurtubi: 18/99.
Question: What was the cause for Jonah's (u) deliverance?
