Allah's attributes, knowledge and capability are mentioned here because progression [in creation] is a necessity of wisdom which relates to knowledge. Ibn Ashur: 21/128.
Question: The verse ends with (the All-Knowing, the Most Capable). Why?

(Created you in a state of weakness), the first weakness refers to the delicate liquid [man’s semen], and the frailness of childhood. The second and final weakness refers to old age. Ibn Juzay: 2/171.
Question: There are two states of weaknesses in this verse. Explain.

Allah reveals the ignorance of the disbelievers in this world and the Hereafter. In this world, they worship idols, and in the Hereafter, they will also display great ignorance. They will swear by Allah that they did not even stay for one hour in this world. They will intend to say that there was not enough time given to establish proof against them which would leave them with no excuse. Ibn Kathir: 3/424.
Question: This verse indicates the disbelievers’ ignorance in worldly life and the Hereafter. Explain.

Combining knowledge with faith to signify the importance of faith since knowledge without faith does not guide to the true beliefs that enable people to be saved in the Hereafter. Ibn Ashur: 21/131.
Question: The verse combines knowledge with faith. Why?

Meaning: (Allah), the Almighty, the Most Capable, seals (the hearts of those who do not know), those who do not seek knowledge, or search for the truth; rather, they persist in believing fables, and inventing hoaxes, as compound ignorance prevents one from realizing the truth, and drives him to reject the rightful person. That is why it is said that compounded ignorance is worse than simple one. Al-Alusi: 11/60-61.
Question: Explain the risk of not seeking the truth and persisting in ignorance.

This is something that should help one to be patient, for if he knows that his effort will not be wasted and that he will find it rewarded in full, then every hardship that he encounters will become insignificant, and it will become easier for him to bear every difficulty. Al-Saadi: 646.
Question: Patience is mentioned before stating that Allah's promise is true. Why?

This indicates that if a believer has a certain faith and a mature outlook, it will be easy for him to remain steadfast, but, for one who is weak in certainty, it indicates his immature outlook. Hence, the first example represents the core while the second represents the peels. Al-Saadi: 646.
Question: This verse indicates the difference between the minds of those who are tested. Explain.
