(They said, "We do not water until the shepherds dispatch their flocks"), we are two women, and cannot crowd with men. (And our father is an old man) who cannot attend to this matter, nor could he water his flocks, hence we wait until after people finished so we can water an leave. Al-Tabari: 19/554.
Question: The verse indicates that preventing the mixing between men and women is the way of Prophets and righteous people. Explain.

Allah bestowed much good upon Moses (u); the first of which was giving him wisdom and knowledge, saving him from being killed [as a child], raising him in a royal setting, and protecting him from the religious convictions of the royal family in which he was raised, hence he benefited from its best and evaded its worst. Moreover, other types of good was making him the deliverer of his people [the Israelites], saving him again from being killed unjustly, guiding him to a faraway shelter, and made him acquainted with a family of a Prophet. Question: Mention three types of good that Allah bestowed upon His servant Moses.

(Walking modestly), her modesty was natural since she was tasked with coming to a complete stranger to talk and walk with him. Al-Biqai: 14/268.
Question: Modesty is a reason for selecting a righteous person to marry. Explain in light of this verse.

(Hire him), let him work for you. (Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy): This is a complete wisdom, stated eloquently. It is said that her father asked: How did you know about his strength and trustworthiness? She replied: As for his strength, he lifted the stone off the top of the well, and as for his trustworthiness, he never looked at me. Ibn Juzay: 2/143.
Question: This verse encourages providing advice to those in authority. Explain.

These two characteristics should be taken into account when hiring anyone to do work, because problems only arise when one or both of these characteristics is lacking. But if they are combined, then the work will be done properly. Al-Saadi: 614.
Question: How do we infer from this verse the ideal traits of those who run public affairs?

He encouraged him by stating that the work would be easy and that he would treat him well. This indicates that the righteous man should have a good attitude as much as he can. Al-Saadi: 615.

He wanted to affirm his good manners to Moses. This is not considered self-praise, which is forbidden, since its aim is self-conceit and bragging. However, if the aim is showing goodwill in religious or dealing matters, then it is for a good cause. Ibn Ashur: 20/109.
Question: The old man says, (You will find me, if Allah wills, from among the righteous). Is this self-praise?
