The commands to maintain chastity are followed by guiding the believers to what helps keep their souls chaste and their gazes low. Allah directs the guardians to arrange marriages for their female slaves, and not leave them infatuated with others, since marriage keeps both women and men chaste. Ibn Ashur: 18/215.
Question: When the Quran commands to maintain low gazing and chastity, it indicates some of means to help the believers do that. How does this verse indicate that?
Since man has a natural disposition to worry about the lack of provision, Allah answers, as if saying: Man may be incapable of marriage due to his poverty, saying: (If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them) when they get married (from His bounty), because He decreed for every soul its provision, hence, do not let their poor status prevent you from arranging their marriage. Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (t) said: "Obey Allah in what He commands you of marriage, He will fulfill to you what He promised you of enrichment." Al-Biqai: 13/265.
Question: This verse indicates one of the reasons to become rich. What is it?
This is guidance to those who are eager for marriage but do not possess the means to pursue it to do what is best for them, which is keeping themselves chaste. Al-Alusi: 9/344.
Question: What should be our advice to a single person? What is Allah's promise to him?
This is a command to keep oneself chaste. The Arabic word used indicates striving to keep oneself chaste when one does not have the means for it. (Cannot afford marriage), they cannot get married for any reason. Ibn Juzay: 2/91.
Question: For one who does not have the means to get married, what should he do?
After the verses about lowering the gaze, Allah mentions the verse of the light, and says, (Allah is the Light of the heavens and earth). Shah bin Shuja Al-Karmani had an impeccable intuition, and he used to say: "He who followed Sunnah, feared Allah, lowered his gaze toward forbidden things, refrained from following his desires, and consumed only lawful food, his intuition would never be wrong." Allah's reward befits the servant's deed, so when he lowers his gaze toward what Allah prohibited, Allah compensates him with something suitable and better, which is enlightening his insight and inspiring him. Ibn Taimyah: 4/513.
Question: The verse of the light comes after verses about lowering the gaze, why?
(Light upon light), some of the righteous predecessors said: This is about the believer who speaks with wisdom, even though he did not hear it before, and when he hears it, it becomes light upon light; the light of faith in his heart matches the light of the Quran. Ibn Taimyah: 4/513.
Question: When does the believer have two lights?
(Exalting), praying and glorifying. (Him), to Allah alone. (Within them in the morning), early morning prayer [Al-Fajr]. (And the evenings), prayers at the latter part of the day, so they begin and end their day with Allah's remembrance, thus, they will be protected in between, and their works will be blessed. Al-Biqai: 13/278.
Question: What is the benefit for a Muslim to begin and end his day with prayer and remembrance of Allah?
