Aversion to the truth is attributed to most, but not all, of the polytheists. That is in fairness to some, among them with sensible minds who knew the falsehood of shirk, and were inclining to the truth, but they had to go along with the tyrants of their people in order to maintain their safety and livelihood. Ibn Ashur: 18/91.

(Were the Truth to follow their desires), if the truth follows what people desire and lust for, the world order will be nullified, because people's desires are different and go against each other. In essence, the truth is to be followed, and people should adhere to it. Al-Qurtubi: 15/72.
