Allah says that these believers will inherit Al-Firdaws (The Highest level in Paradise), which entails that others will not. This proves that maintaining these qualities is mandatory. If this were voluntary, then they would have inherited Al-Firdaws without maintaining these qualities, but inheriting Paradise is attained only by doing what is mandatory; hence, no recommended quality is mentioned here. Since humbleness in prayer is mandatory, then it implies tranquility and modesty altogether. Ibn Taimyah: 4/454.
Question: According to this verse, humbleness in prayer is mandatory. How?
Humbleness in prayer is the essence and purpose of prayer, and this is what will be written down in the individual's record. With regard to prayer in which there is no humility and attentiveness of the mind, even though it may be valid and rewardable, the reward for it will be commensurate with the person's level of focus and understanding of what he says. Al-Saadi: 547-548.
Question: Among the pillars and duties of prayer, humbleness is singled out for mention. Why?
Among the qualities of successful believers mentioned in this verse is turning away from ill speech, which is, in essence, words and actions that are vain. These include amusement, diversion, larking around and that which is resented by good sense. Al-Shanqiti: 5/306.
Question: Reducing the time spent on useless programs on mobile phones and computers can lead one to success. Explain in light of this verse.
Here, Allah praises and commends His believing servants, highlighting their success and bliss, and how they attain success. This implicitly urges us to acquire the same characteristics and encourages us to do so. So, the individual should assess himself and others, measuring against these standards; thus, he will know what he and others have of faith, and the level and extent of that faith. Al-Saadi: 547.
Question: How can one identify his flaw so that he can rectify it?
Trust and pledge include every obligation man acts upon by words or actions in his religious and worldly affairs. This covers all dealings and appointments with others, etc. The objective is to preserve and fulfill. Al-Qurtubi: 15/15.
Question: Explain the concept of trust that the servant must maintain.
Maintaining the prayer is to perform it on time while fulfilling its conditions. If someone asks: Why does the mention of prayer appear at the beginning of this Surah and in this verse? The answer is: It is not a repetition because humbleness in prayer is mentioned at the beginning and maintenance of prayer is mentioned in this verse, so they are two different things. Ibn Juzay: 2/68.
Question: Allah mentions prayer at the beginning of this Surah and in this verse. Why?
The majority of Quran interpreters said that it means that we are aware of the safety of all the creation, lest the heavens fall and cause their destruction. Al-Qurtubi: 15/22.
Question: Describe one aspect of Allah's mercy toward His servants.
