There is no benefit in knowing the exact time of it; rather the benefit is to affirm it, establish it as a certain belief. Otherwise, everything that is coming is near at hand. Al-Saadi: 460.
Question: The polytheists' question about the time of the Day of Resurrection is inappropriate. Why?
If a man lived for thousands of years in this worldly life and in his grave, he would consider that a very short time compared to the Day of Resurrection and eternity. Qatadah said: They will belittle the time span of this worldly life compared to the Day of Resurrection. Al-Baghawi: 2/687.
Question: On the Day of Resurrection, why will man think that his dwelling in this worldly life was short?
If there is a choice between two good things, then it is enjoined to give precedence to the better of the two when it is not possible to combine both. Speaking good words leads to developing good manners and doing righteous deeds, for the one who controls his tongue will be in control of all his affairs. Al-Saadi: 460.
Question: What is the difference between better and best? Which one we are enjoined of?
The devil strives to create trouble between people in a manner that is detrimental to their religious commitment and worldly affairs. The remedy for that is not to obey him, by avoiding the inappropriate talk to which he calls people, and by being soft and gentle with one another, so as to suppress the devil who seeks to spread discord among them, because he is their true enemy whom they should oppose. Al-Saadi: 460.
Question: The devil gets in the conversation between you and others. How should you handle that?
The important aim of this directive is to educate the Muslims to treat each other in kindness and with soft speaking because words reflect intentions. Moreover, it educates them on how to argue with the polytheists in order to avoid the consequences of quarrels and harshness, which can increase their hardheadedness and stubbornness, and that is satan's sowing discord between them and their enemy. Ibn Ashur: 15/132.
Question: What is the important aim of this verse?
Worship cannot be complete or perfect unless it is accompanied by both fear and hope. Fear stops one from doing things that are forbidden, and hope makes him do more good deeds. Ibn Kathir: 3/46.
Question: For the believer, why is it important to have both fear and hope?
Ibn Masoud (t) said: "When fornication and usury spread in a town, Allah decrees its destruction." Al-Qurtubi: 13/107.
Question: When does Allah decree the destruction of towns?
