They grieve over adversities in this life, such as when the Prophet (ﷺ lost his son, he said: "indeed, we are grieved over being separated from you, o Ibrahim." But, this is an affectional grief that abates with patience. The grief that does not afflict the believers is the permanent one, which is the humiliating grief over a defeat by their enemy, and the loss of their religion and state. Ibn Ashur: 11/218.
Question: What is the grief that does not afflict the believers? Does this contradict their griefs over adversities in this life?
(And fear Allah), using the present tense form indicates that they are consistently and repeatedly fear Allah. Ibn Ashur: 11/218.
Question: This verse indicates that the believers consistently fear Allah. How?
Glad tidings for a believer in this world mean being spoken well of, praised, and loved by the believers. It also includes seeing good dreams and perceiving the kindness of Allah in enabling him to do the best of deeds and acquire the best of qualities, and by diverting from him bad characteristics. In the Hereafter, the first glad tidings the believers receive are at the time when their souls are taken in death. After that, in the grave, they receive the glad tidings of the good pleasure of Allah and eternal bliss. Then, in the Hereafter, they will receive the ultimate glad tidings of entering the gardens of bliss and salvation from the painful punishment. Al-Saadi: 368.
Question: State examples of the glad tidings for the believer in this life and the Hereafter.
Because He is the Truthful in all that He says and no one can go against what He wills and decrees. Al-Saadi: 368.
Question: What makes you confident that there is no change in Allah’s words?
(The verse, (Indeed, all power belongs to Allah) is a reason to ward off the grief of the Prophet (ﷺ), and that is why it is separated from the command at the beginning. It is as if the Prophet (r) would say: How cannot I grieve when the polytheists assail and threaten us while they have power and capability? Allah responds to him by confirming that their power is as good as non-existent because it is limited and temporary, but the true power and honor belong to Allah Who sent you to them. Ibn Ashur: 11/221.
Question: Explain the great difference between the power of Allah and that of polytheists.
This verse affirms that every claim without proof is mere ignorance, that religious beliefs necessitate conclusive evidence, and imitation does not lead to the right guidance. Al-Alusi: 11/207.
Question: What is the risk in neglecting the authentic proof and knowledge of Sharia?
Meaning: They will not be saved; it is also said that they will not last for long in this life. Al-Baghawi: 2/371.
Question: What is the punishment of those who fabricate lies against Allah?
