Meaning: We deserve it; however, they did not give thanks to Allah for it. Al-Saadi: 301.
Question: What is the stance of the disbelievers on the blessings of Allah?
(But most of them do not know) that the drought and hardships which afflicted them were decreed by Allah for their sins. Al-Qurtubi: 9/308.
Question: Do most people know the reason for punishments and tribulations which afflict them?
Allah calls these tribulations (signs) since they were proofs of the truthfulness of Moses (), as they presented a challenge and were indications of Allah's wrath upon them. Ibn Ashur: 9/70.
Question: In this verse, Allah calls these tribulations (signs), why?
(And were heedless of them) they did not learn from these signs, so they became heedless of them. Al-Qurtubi: 9/315.
Question: What is the reality of heedlessness?
Meaning: We drowned them as a recompense for their rejection of the signs. Heedlessness is the distraction of the mind from remembering things, which meant, in this case, intentional heedlessness, turning away from reflecting on the signs, and refusing to see them as evidence of the truthfulness of Moses (). Ibn Ashur: 9/75.
Question: What type of heedlessness did the people of Pharaoh experience?
Allah mentions that He blessed the land of the Levant (Ash-Sham, which is presently the region of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine) in many verses of the Quran, such as (And We made the people who had been oppressed to inherit the lands of the east and west that We had blessed). Ibn Taimyah: 3/194.
Question: This verse proves that the land of the Levant is blessed. Explain.
Meaning: The fulfillment of Allah's good word is the realization of His promise to them of achieving victory over Pharaoh and his demise. Ibn Taimyah: 3/194.
Question: What is the meaning of fulfillment of Allah's good word in this verse?
