Meaning: In accordance with their deeds, the one who did less evil will not be like the one who did a great deal of evil, and the follower will not be like the leader. Similarly, although those who attain reward and Paradise will share the success, triumph and admission to Paradise, there will be differences (in status) between them that are known only to Allah. But they will all be pleased with what the Lord gives them and will be content with it. Al-Saadi: 274.
Question: Practically speaking, what is the benefit of knowing that people in Paradise will be at different ranks?
Allah Has only enjoined righteous deeds upon His servants and forbidden them to do evil deeds, out of mercy toward them and in their best interests. He is independent of means and has no need of any of His creation; the obedience of the obedient is of no benefit to Him, just as the disobedience of the disobedient does not harm Him at all. Al-Saadi: 274.
Question: Allah describes Himself as the Free of need after he mentions the recompense of the believers and disbelievers. Why?
Since you understand that you will inevitably depart from this world as others did, and you will leave it for those who come after you, as those who came before you departed and left it for you, then why would you take it as a place to settle forever and establish yourself therein? Why would you forget that it is merely a place that you are passing through, not a place to abide in forever? Ahead of you there is another abode, one in which there are all types of blessings and joy, one which is free of all defects and imperfections. That is the abode for which the first and the last strive and aim. And how unfortunate is the one who is content with less than that, who chooses to have no aspirations and is content to be among the losers. Al-Saadi: 274.
Question: For a wise person, what is the benefit in knowing about nations before him that vanished and were replaced by others?
Allah named the devils "partners" since the polytheists obeyed them by committing acts of disobedience to Allah, and therefore, they associated them with Allah in the duty of obedience. Al-Qurtubi: 9/39.
Question: Allah names the devils (partners.) Why?
The killing is ascribed to the partners even though they did not directly inflict it, but since they called for it and made it appealing, it became as if they actually had done it. Al-Qurtubi: 9/39.
Question: An individual calls for an evil act, encourages others to do it and makes it appealing to them. Does that make him like the doer of this evil act?
They used to kill their children by burying them alive, and offered them as sacrifices to their idols. Their (partners) were the devils or the priests who were serving the idols. (To lead them to destruction) which is their evident loss in this life and the Hereafter. Ibn Juzay: 1/287.
Question: From this verse, describe Allah's favor upon us with Islam.
The (partners) here are the devils who call for this evil act and make it appealing; also, the executers among humans who pass it along from one generation to another. Indeed, they are all partners in this horrendous act and its consequences in the Hereafter. Ibn Atiyah: 2/349.
Question: When does one become a partner with the devil?
