Question: Disbelieving after witnessing the signs is a greater sin than disbelieving at the outset. Explain.

Jesus () will begin his reply with glorifying Allah for two reasons, first: Exalting Allah above all what is said. Second: Submitting to His Might and fearing His Power. Al-Qurtubi: 8/302.

In his response, Jesus () will not say, "The Forgiving, The Merciful" due to his politeness and humbleness in his speech with Allah who is angry with them and is about to send them to Hellfire. This is not a time for intercession, rather, it is time for disowning them. It means that if You forgive them, then Your forgiveness would be based upon Your perfect knowledge and power, and not due to incapability of punishing them or heedlessness of their crimes. This statement includes every believer in Allah, and the more righteous he is, the more included he will be. Moreover, the statement confirms the truthfulness of Jesus (u) which will give him an honorable status on that day. Ibn Atiyah: 2/263.
Question: Truthfulness is a salvation in this life and the Hereafter. Explain in light of this verse.
