Al-Ma'idah Verses 0 - 105

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ عَلَيۡكُمۡ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ لَا يَضُرُّكُم مَّن ضَلَّ إِذَا ٱهۡتَدَيۡتُمۡۚ

This does not mean that neglecting to enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong will not harm the Muslim; in fact, his guidance cannot be complete unless he does what he is obliged to do of enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong. However, if he is unable to denounce evil by taking action and speaking out, but resents it in his heart, then those who have gone astray will not harm him. Al-Saadi: 246.
Question: How do you respond to one who infers from this verse that enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong is not obligatory?

Al-Ma'idah Verses 0 - 105

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ عَلَيۡكُمۡ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ لَا يَضُرُّكُم مَّن ضَلَّ إِذَا ٱهۡتَدَيۡتُمۡۚ

An ignorant person may misconstrue the apparent meaning of this verse that enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong as not obligatory; however, this verse indicates that an individual is relieved only after he carries out his duty but to no avail, as Allah says, (As long as you are guided) and no guidance is achieved when neglecting enjoining what is right. Al-Shanqiti: 1/459.
Question: When does the harm of misguidance affect its owner only?

Al-Ma'idah Verses 0 - 106

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ شَهَٰدَةُ بَيۡنِكُمۡ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ حِينَ ٱلۡوَصِيَّةِ

The will is considered as valid, even if the individual reached the point where he was about to die, so long as he was still thinking clearly. Al-Saadi: 247.
Question: Is it acceptable for one who is about to die to make a will?

Al-Ma'idah Verses 0 - 106

فَأَصَٰبَتۡكُم مُّصِيبَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۚ

In this verse, Allah has calls death a disaster. Even though death is a great disaster and a major calamity, but what is even a greater disaster is being heedless about it, turning away from its remembrance, neglecting to reflect on it and not working for what comes afterward. Indeed, death is a great lesson and an admonition to those who think. Al-Qurtubi: 8/264.
Question: Is death a disaster? What is even a greater disaster than death?

Al-Ma'idah Verses 0 - 106

تَحۡبِسُونَهُمَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ فَيُقۡسِمَانِ بِٱللَّهِ

Detaining witnesses after the prayer is to indicate the importance of the time of the prayer, and as a deterrence since it is witnessed by the angels. Al-Qurtubi: 8/266.
Question: Taking the oath is prescribed after the prayer. Why?

Al-Ma'idah Verses 0 - 106

فَيُقۡسِمَانِ بِٱللَّهِ إِنِ ٱرۡتَبۡتُمۡ لَا نَشۡتَرِي بِهِۦ ثَمَنٗا وَلَوۡ كَانَ ذَا قُرۡبَىٰ وَلَا نَكۡتُمُ شَهَٰدَةَ ٱللَّهِ إِنَّآ إِذٗا لَّمِنَ ٱلۡأٓثِمِينَ ١٠٦

(We will not withhold the testimony of [ordained by] Allah), the testimony of which Allah ordained to be guarded and given truly. In this verse, the testimony is linked to Allah to signify its importance. Ibn Juzay: 1/255.
Question: In this verse, the testimony is linked to Allah. Why?

Al-Ma'idah Verses 0 - 108

وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱسۡمَعُواْۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ ١٠٨

(And Fear Allah and listen): Listening obediently and accepting all commands. (For Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people) means that if you do not fear and listen, then you become defiantly disobedient and rouges whom Allah does not guide to the right way or to Paradise. Al-Alusi: 7/69.
Question: This verse mentions a barrier to guidance and success. What is it?
