In His wisdom, Allah takes a gradual approach by informing His servants of what is strange as an introduction to that which is stranger. Hence, He first of all mentions the creation of Yahia (u), the son of Zakariya (u), who was born to parents, one of whom was elderly and the other was barren. Then He mentions something stranger and more amazing than that, which was the creation of Jesus (u) through a mother, without a father, in order to show His servants that He does what He wills, and that whatever He wills happens, and whatever He does not will not happen. Al-Saadi: 131.
Question: The story of Yahia (u) precedes the story of Jesus (u). Why?
The bringing of Jesus (u) into existence is expressed using the word (create) since it was done in a supernatural way. When a maker makes something using natural materials and applying normal process, he does not say: I created; rather he says: I made. Ibn Ashur: 3/249.
Question: The verse uses the word (creates) instead of "makes." Why
Many scholars said that Allah sent every Prophet with a miracle suitable to the people of his time. As for Jesus (u), he was sent during a time when medicine and natural sciences were advanced. Jesus brought them signs that no one can do unless he is supported by Allah. How could a physician bring inanimate objects back to life, or treat the blind and the leper, while resurrecting someone who is in his grave, bound until the Day of Judgment? Ibn Kathir: 2/37.
Question: In His wisdom, Allah speaks to the people in terms of what they know. Explain this through the miracle of Jesus (u).
These two disabilities are singled out due to their incurable nature. Since medicine was predominant during the time of Jesus (u), he showed them a miracle that they can truly appreciate. Al-Baghawi: 1/354.
Question: Why was Jesus (u) given this miracle?
Jewish law had many restrictions and that is why Jesus (u) said: (And to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you). Ibn Taimyah: 2/69.
Question: Jewish law is characterized by a trait, what is it?
(So fear Allah and obey me), politeness toward the Benefactor [Allah] is more important, and fear of Him is more just and obligatory, lest He cut off his benevolence and cease His favors. Al-Biqai: 2/94.
Question: The benevolence of Allah is mentioned before commanding to fear Him. Why?
Meaning: I do not call you to do something unless I do it before you. I never claim to be a god nor do I call to worship anything but Allah, the Almighty, as the Antichrist (Ad-Dajjal) and other liars claim, where supernatural phenomena appear at their hands as a test from Allah to His servants, and they use these miracles to seek glory in the land and superiority over people. Al-Biqai: 2/94.
Question: Why does the term (my Lord) precede the term (your Lord)?
