Ash-Shu'ara Verses 0 - 43

Moses did not throw his staff first because he was not in a war setting where one side would benefit from attacking first, rather, this was a debate setting, where it was better to let the opponent present his arguments, then it would be easier to refute them, hence, the truth would come out and falsehood would be defeated. This approach, followed by Moses, was inspired by his Lord. Al-Jaza'iri: 3/649.
Question: Moses did not throw his staff first. Why?

Ash-Shu'ara Verses 0 - 44

((And they said), they swore (by the might of Pharaoh). Whoever swears by anything other than Allah -as saying: By the life of so and so, etc.- is a follower of this ignorance. Al-Biqai: 14/32-33.
Question: Swearing by something is equating it with Allah in veneration. Explain.

They said that in order to frighten Moses, and weaken his resolve when he would throw his staff since they knew that a magician’s determination was one of the biggest reasons for his success and his impact on the spectators. Ibn Ashur: 19/127.
Question: The magicians said (it is we who will be the victorious). Why?

Ash-Shu'ara Verses 0 - 49

This is stubborn talk, and anyone can see that it is nonsense, for they had never met Moses before that day, so, how could he have been their chief who taught them how to do magic. No rational person would say this. Ibn Kathir: 3/324.
Question: This verse indicates the stubbornness of Pharaoh. Explain.

Ash-Shu'ara Verses 0 - 50

But the magicians said, when they had tasted the sweetness of faith: (No harm), we do not care what you threaten us with. Al-Saadi: 592.
Question: The magicians did not care about Pharaoh’s threats. Why?

Ash-Shu'ara Verses 0 - 51

They expressed hope to indicate that all causes of happiness come from Allah only. Al-Biqai: 14/36.
Question: What does expressing hope in Allah’s forgiveness indicate?

Ash-Shu'ara Verses 0 - 56

Meaning: Being cautious was one of his traits and habits, therefore, the community must join him in that too, which means that it is our habit to be cautious of ongoing events, and what dire consequences they could have. This is a great principle in governance, which is blocking the means of corruption, even if their probable lead to corruption is weak. Ibn Ashur: 19/131.
Question: This verse indicates a great principle in governance. Explain.
