ﮱ ﯓ ٣١ ٣١ ﯕ ﯖ ﯗ ﯘ ﯙ ﯚ ٣٢ ٣٢
ﯜ ﯝ ﯞ ﯟ ﯠ ﯡ ٣٣ ٣٣ ﯣ ﯤ ﯥ
ﯦ ﯧ ﯨ ﯩ ٣٤ ٣٤ ﯫ ﯬ ﯭ ﯮ ﯯ
ﯰ ﯱ ﯲ ٣٥ ٣٥ ﯴ ﯵ ﯶ ﯷ ﯸ ﯹ
ﯺ ٣٦ ٣٦ ﯼ ﯽ ﯾ ﯿ ٣٧ ٣٧ ﰁ ﰂ
ﰃ ﰄ ﰅ ٣٨ ٣٨ ﰇ ﰈ ﰉ ﰊ ﰋ ٣٩ ٣٩
وَتِلۡكَ نِعۡمَةٞ تَمُنُّهَا عَلَيَّ أَنۡ عَبَّدتَّ بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ ٢٢
Meaning: You remind me of raising me, while you forget your crime against the Children of Israel by enslaving and mistreating them. Or, he meant to say: How can you remind me of raising me, while you enslaved my people? Whomever his people are insulted, would be a humiliated person, hence, your enslavement of the Children of Israel nullified your benevolence to me. Al-Baghawi: 3/356.
Question: Explain Moses' response to Pharaoh when he reminded him of his benevolence to him.
قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَكُمُ ٱلَّذِيٓ أُرۡسِلَ إِلَيۡكُمۡ لَمَجۡنُونٞ ٢٧ قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغۡرِبِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ ٢٨
(If only you had sense), in that there is an implicit indication that what you accused Moses of, namely insanity, is, in fact, present in you, for you accused the smartest, most rational and most knowledgeable person of being insane, when, in fact, you are the insane ones because you denied the Being Whose existence is the most obvious, namely the Creator of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. Al-Saadi: 590.
Question: In Moses' words, there is a response to Pharaoh's accusation of insanity. Explain in light of this verse.
قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغۡرِبِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ ٢٨
In the beginning, Moses (u) used a soft approach in calling Pharaoh to Allah, but due to Pharaoh’s impolite last response to him, Moses ended this proof by saying: (If only you had sense), which means that you already know that. Hence, Moses' response was sharp, yet gentle, and clear, yet implied. Al-Biqai: 14/27.
Question: It is wise to the right words at the right time. Explain in light of this verse.
قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغۡرِبِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ ٢٨
One may wonder about Moses' responses; he started by saying: (If only you had sure faith), then he said: (If only you had sense)? The explanation is that, in the beginning, Moses was lenient in addressing them in hope that they would accept the faith, but after he witnessed their stubbornness and falsification, he rebuked them by saying: (If only you had sense), which was in response to Pharaoh's saying: (Your messenger who has been sent to you is truly insane). Ibn Juzay: 2/117.
Question: At the start, Moses said to Pharaoh: (If only you had sure faith), then, later he said: (If only you had sense). Why?
قَالَ لَئِنِ ٱتَّخَذۡتَ إِلَٰهًا غَيۡرِي لَأَجۡعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمَسۡجُونِينَ ٢٩
Moses asked Allah to When proof had been established against Pharaoh, clearly and rationally, he resorted to using his force and authority against Moses. Ibn Kathir: 3/322.
Question: How do wrongdoers behave when they lose an argument?
فَأَلۡقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعۡبَانٞ مُّبِينٞ ٣٢
(Manifest), this indicates that it was a real serpent, without ambiguity or imagination. Ibn Ashur: 19/123.
Question: What is the benefit of describing the serpent as manifest?
قَالُوٓاْ أَرۡجِهۡ وَأَخَاهُ وَٱبۡعَثۡ فِي ٱلۡمَدَآئِنِ حَٰشِرِينَ ٣٦ يَأۡتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٖ ٣٧ فَجُمِعَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَٰتِ يَوۡمٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ ٣٨ وَقِيلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلۡ أَنتُم مُّجۡتَمِعُونَ ٣٩
This was what Allah decreed would happen to them, so that all the people would gather in one place and the signs and proof of Allah would be made manifest before them all in one day. Ibn Kathir: 3/322.
Question: Pharaoh tried to nullify Moses' argument by gathering the magicians, but the opposite happened. Explain.
