(And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck), this is a metaphor for stinginess, where a stingy person is similar to one whose hands are stopped spending and held in chains to his neck. (Or extend it completely), this is a metaphor for extreme spending. So, Allah forbids taking either of these two extremes and enjoins a balanced approach as He says, (And those who neither spend wastefully nor stingily, but are moderate between them) [25:67]. Ibn Juzay: 1/486.
Question: Allah made Islamic Sharia a balanced one. Give an example.
Meaning: Allah knows and sees who deserves to be rich and who deserves to be poor. Some people are more susceptible to corruption if they become rich, thus, a lack of wealth suits them better. Others are just the opposite, poverty may weaken their faith, and thus, wealth suits them better. In some cases, wealth may be decreed for someone leading him to his doom. In other cases, poverty may be a punishment. We seek refuge with Allah from both. Ibn Kathir: 3/37.
Question: This verse concludes with Allah's Names: (All-Aware) and (All-Seeing) Why?
This verse indicates that Allah is more compassionate toward His servants than a father to his child. Ibn Kathir: 3/37.
Question: Who has more compassion for you: your Lord or your parents? And why?
The prohibition of going near the matter is more eloquent than the prohibition on simply doing it, because this includes the prohibition of all precursors that lead to it, for whoever lets his flocks graze around the protected area will soon find his flocks transgressing upon it. This is especially applicable regarding this matter, as many people have the strongest inclination toward it. Al-Saadi: 457.
Question: What is the difference between: (do not go near adultery) and "do not commit adultery"? Which statement is more eloquent and stronger in prohibition?
Due to its abhorrent nature, Allah describes fornication (adultery) as a shameful act, which means a sin that is regarded as shameful and evil according to Islamic teachings, intellect and human nature, because it involves a transgression of the sacred limits set by Allah, and it is also a transgression against the woman and against her family or husband, it causes trouble in marriages, mixes lineages, and leads to other negative consequences. Al-Saadi: 457.
Question: What are the reasons for describing adultery as a shameful act?
This is a great moral etiquette and a valuable reform of the mind that teaches the Muslim Ummah the difference between the levels of thoughts of the mind so that the known, the suspected, and the illusionary do not become mixed up with each other. Ibn Ashur: 15/101.
Question: This verse contains a moral etiquette and a valuable reform of the mind. Explain.
Meaning: Your ability will not reach that, in fact, you are a humble servant who is surrounded from above and below. A surrounded person is confined and weak, thus, arrogance does not befit you. Al-Qurtubi: 13/83.
Question: Why is arrogance not befitting for a weak slave?
