Al-Anfal Verses 0 - 53

Meaning: Allah, the Almighty, will never change His blessings upon a people until they change what is within themselves into denial and ingratitude. Once they do that, Allah will change their situation and take away His blessings. Al-Baghawi: 2/232.
Question: When does Allah change the condition of a society?

Al-Anfal Verses 0 - 53

(That), is namely the punishment that Allah sent upon the disbelieving nations, and took away from them what they were enjoying of blessings and a life of ease, was because of their sins and the change in their own attitude and conduct. For verily Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people, whether those blessings are spiritual or worldly; rather, He would preserve and increases those blessings for them, if they increase in gratitude toward Him (until they change what is within themselves), turning from obedience to disobedience. Thus, showing ingratitude for the blessings of Allah, and using them for sinful purposes; and in that case, Allah takes the blessings away from them, and changes them into something else as they changed their attitude and conduct. Allah is wise in doing that, and He is just and kind to His servants, as He does not punish them except for their wrongdoing. Al-Saadi: 324.
Question: When one changes what is within himself, his blessing will be taken away, so, what about one who is steadfast in gratitude towards Allah?

Al-Anfal Verses 0 - 53

This change consists of two types. First: They display the change through words and actions, and hence, this entails censure and punishment. Second: They replace the faith within their hearts with doubt, suspicion and hatred, and intend to disobey Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ). Ibn Taimyah: 3/282.
Question: There are two types of change to oneself, outward and inward. Explain.

Al-Anfal Verses 0 - 56

In the Arabic text, the verb (break) is in the present tense form to indicate that their action reoccurs and is often repeated even after the revelation of this verse. They will not desist from it, so this alludes to the fact that keeping their covenant is hopeless. Ibn Ashur: 10/48.
Question: The verb (break) is in the present tense. Why?

Al-Anfal Verses 0 - 57

These are the benefits of the punishments and prescribed penalties for sins; they are a means of deterring those who have not committed sins, and they also deter those who committed them from repeating them. Al-Saadi: 324.
Question: What are the benefits of punishing the sinners?

Al-Anfal Verses 0 - 58

This verse hangs throwing back the treaty on the fear of betrayal, not its occurrence, because political and war-related affairs are based on suspicions and changing situations. If those in authority wait for a suspected matter to occur, it will subject Muslim society to danger or embroilment in heedlessness and a loss of benefit. Ibn Ashur: 10/52.
Question: The verse hangs throwing back the treaty on the fear of betrayal, not its occurrence. Why?

Al-Anfal Verses 0 - 61

For in that there are many benefits, such as; first: Seeking peace and safety is always good if they are the ones who initiate that, then it is more appropriate to respond. Second: It offers an opportunity to regain your strength and prepare again to fight them at some other time, if necessary. Third: If you make peace with one another, feel safe with one another, and each side starts to know the beliefs of the other, as Islam by its nature will prevail and cannot be prevailed over. Whoever is possessed of reason and understanding, if he is fair-minded, will inevitably choose Islam over other religions. Al-Saadi: 325.
Question: What are the benefits of making peace for Muslims, when it is offered by the disbelievers and all of its conditions were met?
